Gizmos Art Rebranding
Creating a comprehensive package, I worked closely with a local business, Gizmos Art, to rebrand their identity with a new logo and three pieces of collateral, which in this case were a business card, a brochure, and an advertising concept. Different from my other projects, these designs were based off direct client input. Although Gizmos Art is a discount framing business, their mascot is a black cat and thus was a requirement for inclusion in the branding package. Furthermore, their style can be described as antique and quirky, but accessible to all ages. To capture this juxtaposition of descriptors and unite it with the black cat, I determined a thematic presence of youthful, cat-loving, antique splendor.
Employed by my coaches, I illustrated an energetic and dynamic design for t-shirts for the McDaniel College Women’s Basketball Team.
Investigating the power of propaganda posters, I decided to construct a message combating wasteful consumerism through the different logos/logotypes of luxury brands for cars, perfumes, clothes, etc. Essentially, I removed these iconic symbols from their original context and placed them within a new framework that challenges the consumer. In the form of a ransom note, the ability of the viewer to successfully read the message and recognize the brands simultaneously proves how immersed society is in a commercial existence.
Deadpan 7 Cover Design
I completed a full layout including a back cover, spine, and front cover for a fictional (or maybe in the future) graphic novel, Deadpan 7, by me. This particular novel as encapsulated by the design is a bloody tale of 7 survivors in the zombie apocalypse.
The Art of Redo
Selecting a previous project from my first semester of Graphic Design I, I embarked on a journey to discover the art and importance of the redo. I selected a Type Classification project that required the design of seven pages that corresponded to seven classifications: Humanist Old-Style, Transitional, Modern, Egyptian Slab, Humanist, Anonymous, and Geometric. With each step, I edited or redid the piece fully that is depicted in the third image.
Required to work from physical observation of a small object, I digitally drew this cup of tomato basil soup with a Bamboo pad in Corel Painter. The attention to detail in the basil leaves, rising steam, and glistening ripples gives this illustration an extra dimension of liveliness.
